There are several search features that can help narrow or broaden the records returned.

Field Descriptions

The Digital Resource Repository can be searched for resources (CAMpods and TLRs) via the following fields:

  • All fields—searches all five bibliographic search fields; the five fields are the following:
  • Descriptor—searches the descriptor field, which contains the controlled subject terms that have been applied to describe the content of each particular resource; a list of useful descriptors can be found on the descriptors page
  • Title—searches the title field, which contains the title of the resource
  • Creation—searches the creation field, which contains creation information about the resource, including original author(s) and revision author(s) (i.e., those individuals with copyright permissions for the resource), and creation and revision dates
  • Institution—searches the institution field, which contains the institutional or organizational affiliation of the author(s) of the resource, or the institution or organization if it is a corporate author rather than a personal author
  • Abstract—searches the abstract field, which contains a summary description of the resource

Search Language

Entering a key word (descriptor) in a text box and clicking the search button will initiate a search in the selected field (or the default All fields) for an exact match on that term; if two or more terms are entered in one search text box, it will initiate a search in the selected field (or the default All fields) for an exact match on that string phrase.

The wildcard/truncation characters * (the asterisk) and ? (the question mark) can be used in search query terms:

  • *—matches 0 or more characters (e.g., herb* would search for herb, herbs, herbal, herbalism, and herbalist).
  • ?—matches 0 characters or 1 character (e.g., herb? would search for herb and herbs)

    Boolean Operators

The Boolean operators and, or, and not can be used in search queries:

  • and—retrieves records containing all the query terms or phrases joined by the and operator
  • or—retrieves records containing any of the query terms or phrases joined by the or operator
  • not—excludes records containing the query term or phrase that follows the not operator

Parentheses—if the search query employs search terms in all three search boxes, the parentheses around the first two search boxes establishes the order of operations: operations on the terms in the first two search boxes and the Boolean operator that joins them will be performed first, followed by operations on the term or terms in the third search box and the Boolean operator that joins the third search box.

Limit Search

Optional field limits can be placed on the search query by limiting the following fields:

  • Type—limits the type of resource to CAMpods (consensus-based topic outlines) or to TLRs (teaching/learning resources)
  • TLR Category—limits the teaching/learning resources (TLRs) to a TLR category (e.g., PowerPoint slides, assignments, case studies, etc.)
  • Location—limits the location of the resource to the CAM in UME Digital Resource Repository, or to external Web sites
  • Language—limits the language of the resource to English or French
